Circular economy is one of the new challenges of Tupy’s Open Innovation Portal

July 19, 2022

Five challenges are open for registration in the Portal, which has already received more than 60 proposals since it has been launched in November 2021

Shortening distances through a structured process and appropriate filter for innovations is the proposal of Tupy’s Open Innovation Portal. The Company has been leading several initiatives to strengthen its connection channel with new technologies, models, and solutions originating from startups, universities, researchers, suppliers, students, and other players in the innovation, science, and technology ecosystem. The Portal proposes broad challenges to attract customized ideas beyond those that are already under the Company’s research and development attention.

Two new challenges have been launched on the platform (https://www.tupy.com.br/inovacao-aberta/), which has five open opportunities. The most recent is called “Circular Economy is also continuous improvement”. Even though the Company is already strongly operating on this front, the intention is to go beyond the current business and meet society’s needs through partners and solutions that connect Tupy to different links in the chain to re-evaluate current industrial practices and ensure that inputs generated by other industries are reused in the processes.

The other recent challenge, “Innovating in the surface protection of sand cores”, is related to another important stage of the Company’s production process: molding. The molds (sand cores) currently undergo a painting procedure to protect the surface. The aimed solution is expected to speed up the time spent in this stage, either by proposing improvements to the current process, new technologies, raw material alternatives, or new types of surface protection.

Launched in late 2021, the Portal invites innovative people and companies to combine their skills with those of Tupy, creating value for all participants. Of the 62 proposals already received, 8% have already moved up to the stage of testing and validation of the solutions presented. “Tupy has created specific processes for the relationships born from the Portal, allowing us to quickly evaluate and test the proposals, ensuring a proper return to all participants”, says Fábio Caramori, Businesses Innovation and Development Manager at Tupy.
